World Quilt Show - New England.....Part 2

Here are more pics from this really great show......again, click on the pics to get a close up view!  There is some really great stitching here!  :o)

Somehow I can't find the pic of this quilt that shows it all.....the second pic is nearly 1/4 of the quilt, and you can see from the two corners that the hand quilting was just spectacular!

This was so lovely, and again, the hand quilting was so beautiful!

These hibiscus and thistle flowers were gorgeous.....the pics do NOT do them justice!

This was probably the most amazing quilt there!  The girl's face was hand painted, but the shading and blending on it made you forget it was on fabric!  Just like a painting!  And the thread work was phenomenal.....I have close ups of her hair and the rooster's head to show it.....click and get a better view.  It was really amazing work!

I really loved this seascape......sweet turtle!

Wonderful colors on this one......love it!

Some quilts, like this last one, were in such a dark corner, you could hardly get a pic.  But I think you can still get an idea of just how wonderfully details these quilts were!  I should have the 3rd post finishing up the pics in a couple of days.

Hope you are having a great weekend!  I'm chop chop chopping......canning salsa!  Yum!

World Quilt Show - New England.....Part 1

My friend Brenda and I just got back from Manchester, New Hampshire where the World Quilt Show for New England is currently running through this Sunday.  It was a really great show, and I have a ton of pics from it!  Actually, I have 82 pics.....that's why this post is Part 1.  I think it will be spread out over the next several days in maybe 3 posts.  I think you can click on most of the pics to get a bigger view.....and some quilts I took a real close-up of it, cuz it was just too amazing not to see up close!

These are in no particular order......and I took shots of ones that I either really liked, or there was something different about it that intrigued me.  Most are not the 'show winners'.....of course......they NEVER pick the ones I think they should!  Why is that?  lol

This was really a beautiful quilt......very nice applique and lovely quilting.  The 1st and 3rd pic show the truer colors of the quilt.

These next 7 quilts are from Pepper Cory's collection of antique or made-by-her quilts.  They are of the theme  "Orange and Back".

This antique quilt was originally of a black background, and where the pale pinkish color was it was actually orange.....it all faded with age and old dye issues.

This quilt was a stunner.....the biased strip celtic design was really amazing.  Click on the close up shots to really see the applique and hand quilting!  The two close up shots are the real colors of the quilt.  The lighting in the Radisson was NOT meant to show quilts by.....everything faded out, or was in the dark shadows of corners.....I had so many shots that didn't come out at all!  Dang!

This one was sweet.....a view of the beach.....complete with towels and cabanas!  lol

The micro-stippling on this was just beautiful.....love it!

Ok.....this quilt might not look like much from a distance, but check out the close-ups!  OMG!  Definitely click on the pics.....the machine quilting was phenomenal!  The middle pic is the true color.

These two close ups are the only pics I have of this ribbon winning quilt......it was huge, nearly king sized, and from a distance my pic was just muddled color.  It won the ribbon for Best Hand Embellishment.  These two pics each show about a 6 inch section of this monster quilt.....and the whole thing had felted-wool animals and trees and flowers all over it!

Lots of art quilts.....not usually my cup of tea......but I think I'm being persuaded!  :o)

This show featured contest winners from nine different countries:  Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and the US.  And there were over 70 vendors at this show!  Woohoo!  This show of quilts travels the country, and has upcoming events in PA, CA, FL, VA, NJ, and CO.  I think you can google World Quilt Show to see where they will be.  It was definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive to get to it!  Of course, we made a stop at Keepsake Quilting, but we were very restrained and saved all of our $ for the show!  lol

Hope you have a great day!  Will post again soon with more of the show!

Pieced back is done!

I just finished piecing the backing for the wedding quilt!  I thought instead of the usual 10" squares that I've been doing lately, I'd jazz it up a little!  These are all fabrics from the front, just none of the whites.

Hey now, what's that white-ish dot on the right side???  It's definitely from my camera!  Whew!  :o)

And here is the front, complete with mitered borders.  I had auditioned several different pieced borders on it, but they all just made it way too busy......the center screams loud enough on it's own.....don't need borders screaming at me, too!  lol

I'm hoping to get this sandwiched tomorrow.......but I feel a need to go thrifting first!  We'll see what happens!  :o)

Hope you have a great day!

Another little quilt show!

Years ago, my friend Brenda received a bunch of quilting stuff from an elderly lady she knew that was downsizing to go and live with her daughter.  I guess the lady (Bea) was not planning on doing any more quilting.  Well, Brenda was reorganizing a while back, and came across a bunch of bowtie blocks that Bea had made, but never set together.  Brenda thought....."I'll finish this little quilt, and then send it to Bea!"  So Brenda set all the blocks together, and asked me if I would quilt it!  Of course!  So this last week I scrambled to get it quilted and bound because yesterday there was a little quilt show at a meeting house in Oxford, Maine, where Bea was from.  Turns out.....a lot of the ladies that were there knew Bea, and they were quite pleased to see a quilt that she had a hand in!  Sweet!

Here it is laying across the seats in the meeting house.  And here are a few pics of some of the other quilts at the show......

This was a really nice quilt.....and huge.....I wish it wasn't laying across the pews, cuz it is really hard to see all the patterns.

This one was a mini......only about 8 inches square!  SO SWEET!

There is another quilt show for Oxford County in September.....and I hope to put the bowtie quilt in that, as well, before we ship it out to Bea.....I think she'll get a kick out of her quilt squares making the rounds of her old stomping grounds!  lol

Here's a pic of my Stargazer lilies......it seems I can never remember to take a pic of anything in my garden until it is well past prime......but I remembered this time!  Yay!

And here is a pic of my hubby, John, as he is re-stringing a Crown kite.  The kite is the long line of color at the far end of all the strings.  This kite is a giant wheel when inflated, and it rotates......it is 75 feet across the wheel!  It's huge!  And these lines (the strings) that run out to it at the edges are 100 feet long!  There is such a pull on this kite, it takes several guys (minimum) to control it......it is anchored by a truck, so it can't fly away!  At our first chance, we will take a pic of it inflated......it's really a show-stopper at the kite events!

I've been working on the wedding quilt......I'm piecing the back now, and should have a pic in a couple of days!  Yay!

The countdown to the Bonnie Hunter cruise is just 12 days now!  Woohoo!  I can't wait!

Hope you had a great weekend!
