Before the storm.....

I'm not sure how much steady power we'll have in the next day or two, so I better get to posting this now!  This is the last of the quilts from the Cocheco show a couple of weeks ago.......enjoy!

"Civil War Tribute" by Sharon LaClair.

"Civil War Stars" by Lyn McCreary.

"Grant and Lee" by Barbara Robbins.

 "Winter Fractured" by Cheri Wilkins.

 "Serenity" by Cheri Wilkins.

There was a special exhibit, The Silver Threads Challenge, as part of the New England Quilt Museum's 25th anniversary celebration.  There were entries from all over the country and internationally, as well.  They needed to include some silver thread or fabric, and it should represent their interpretation of 'silver'.

Correction:   I had previously credited this quilt incorrectly.  So, I don't know whose this was.....but it was terrific.  It didn't photograph well.....the background is a jet black, and the silver threads absolutely glow!  It was wonderful!

"Mothers" by Rhoda R. Cohen, Weston, MA.  Sorry so blurry......I just loved the dangles and lots of texture!

I somehow didn't get the info on this one.....but I love it!

"Findings and Beads from India" by Rita K. Alesi, Winchester, MA.

"Stars and Stripes" by Lorraine Hall.

"Antique Civil War Era Baby Crib Quilt" courtesy of Jean Kearney.  This is a Civil War era crib quilt with provenance, dated c. 1861.  Made by Mary Amanda Briggs Riley and used for her third child, Walter Rivers Riley, born April 29, 1861, and died January 10, 1924.  Research has shown Mary Riley was born c. 1834 in Ireland and Walter was born in Warwick, RI.  Jean Kearney purchases it on January 26, 2005 from New Ipswich Antiques, New Ispwich, NH, in honor of her first grandson.

What wonderful information on that baby quilt!  Makes me re-think the labels I've been making on my quilts.  No more, "To Dad, with love, from Regan."  That's just not enough now!  :o)

"Civil War Generals" by Sharon LaClair.

"Civil War Confederate Generals" by Lyn McCreary.

 "Caisson's Rolling" by Barbara Robbins.

I'm wishing all the folks in the hurricane path to be safe, warm and dry.  Being prepared is all we can do.  We're not expecting anything more than some crazy winds and power outages up here in Maine, so I have my hand piecing all ready to go!

A couple of minis, and more of the Cocheco show...

The last few days in the sewing room have been busy busy busy!  I desperately needed a leader/ender project, because I'm tired of using 2" squares for that!  I have billions, now.....with nothing in mind for them.  So I needed a l/e that was for a specific project.  And I've always drooled over a scrappy red and white tumbler quilt on Ingrid's Supergoof Quilts blog.  (Check out her blog.....it's wonderful!  You'll need to hit the translate button, though!  It's in Dutch!)   So that seemed like a perfect l/e project!  I set out drafting it up, figuring how many tumblers I'd need, and got busy cutting!  I now have all 1500 tumblers cut out!  Woohoo!  Now I can start sewing again!  I don't know if you're like me, but if I don't have a l/e to use, I just can't sew a seam!  :o)

So then I got busy on some projects!  And since I was in the tumbler block mode, I got busy on the gifted tumblers that Kathie from Inspired by Antique Quilts blog sent me recently!  I just love the little size of them!  And because it was a mini, it was totally doable in a day.....quilting and binding included!  Woohoo!  All done!  Thanks Kathie.....I love it!

The back!  Bound in solid black.  It finished at 10.25 x 11.5.  The tumblers are 1.25" tall.

I just did a simple stitch in the ditch; I didn't want to take away from the fun fabrics!  And I felt like the back should feel fall-like, too......so I found a nice leaf fabric in my stash.

Once I had this little guy done, I was thinking I wanted to do another mini!  They are just so addicting!  So I pulled all the 3" squares I received on a recent shop hop, and started sewing!  They were meant to be made into a maple leaf block wall hanging, so I had 5 each of the different fabrics.  But I'm not a big fan of the maple leaf block.  But I have seen a few broken dishes quilts online recently, so I thought that would be fun......and really small!  :o)

The back.  Bound in a red print.  It finished at 11" x 14.75".  Each broken dish square is 1.5".

Again, a fall fabric from my stash made up the back.  I'm totally addicted to making minis now!  I should have a wall full very soon!  Yay!

Ok.......and now on to more of the Cocheco show!  Sorry, but there are a few pics that are a bit blurry!  I was racing a bit to get through all the quilts.......we spent the majority of the day in the vendor's booths!  lol

Enjoy!

In the mail today.....

I received this month's Elle Magazine in the mail today.  I only subscribe because I had a ton of points on a credit card, but not enough for anything like a flight.

So, I usually thumb through it, see if there are any good fragrance tabs, and then pitch it in the pile to put into the town office 'help yourself' box.

As I'm thumbing through, I spot this layout pic.  Now just look at the pattern on those pants!

First of all......they have a ton of orange on them!  Yay!  And then, of course, it's a fun hexie pattern!  Yay again!

It's so bold, but in a little dose, like maybe a mini for the wall, it would be fabulous!  Right!?!  Orange, purple  and black!  Yummy!

Oh, and just in case you were looking to pick those up on your next spree into the city......they are Prada, and they are $1,860!  .......Now doesn't a wall hanging sound good!  lol

I'll be posting more quilt show pics tomorrow!

Another show.....with so many nice quilts!

My friend, Pat, and I went to the Cocheco Quilters Guild Show in New Hampshire this past Saturday.  And it was GREAT!  This is their 31st annual show.......what a great guild!  If they weren't an 80 mile, 2 hour drive, I'd join this guild!  Oh well......I can at least enjoy their yearly show!

I took a ton of pics again......so I'll show them in a few posts over the next few days.

Enjoy!

This was the Best of Show quilt!  Absolutely gorgeous!  "Feathers, Flowers and Leaves" by Gladi Porsche. It's based on a antique quilt from the Fons and Porter book 'Quilts from the Henry Ford', with numerous design changes including designing her own borders.  It took several years to complete.

Difficult to see in the pic, but she has outline embroidery around most of the applique.....truly striking when looking at it up close.

"Oriental Medition #6: Evolution" by Gladi Porsche.

"Star Struck" by Penny St. Cyr.

 "Fan Dance" by Jeanie Stanley.

 "Starry Night" by Jeanie Stanley.

"Bold Golden Asian Maze" by Nancy Starks-Cheney.

 "Oriental Lanterns" by Diane Stump.

 "Untitled" by Kathryn Theall.

"Retreat Signature Quilt" by Jacque Thompson.  All the members attending the first retreat for this group made a block and Jacque assembled the quilt.

The next 6 quilts were used as backdrops for areas in the show.  Most have been shown at previous shows.
"Sunshine & Shadow" submitted by Viki Champagne.  Purchased on her first quilt trip to Lancaster, PA.

 "American Virtues" by Wendy Coffin.

 "Sea Urchin" by Patricia Craig.

"Shoebox Collection" by Lorraine F. Hall.

"Spinning Towards Prosperity" by Lorraine F. Hall.  Done in the 30's prints.....it was lovely.

"9-Patch Medley" by Fran Holly.  I just can't get enough of 9 patches!  Love it!

"Razzle Dazzle Dance" made by Quinnie Jones.  Quilted by Sue Foster.  Quinnie says, "I love bright colors and picked these out at last year's quilt show.  I'm 12 years old.  I love quilting!"  .......How sweet is that!?!

"Wholecloth Applique" by Carol Ballou.  19"x19"  A project appearing in Quilter's Newsletter, the applique in the center is not made by using two contrasting fabrics but using a single fabric and a black sharpie marker.  The design was drawn on the green fabric, marker was used to color the background black and the block was quilted by stitching along the edges of the design.

"Battle of Gettysbury" by Patience Dixon.  Sorry about the blur.

"Ring of Flowers" by Barbara Robbins

 "Rusty" by Laura Stadig.

 "Spring Melt" by Patricia Craig.

"Autumn Friendship" by Jacque Thompson.  Blocks were appliqued and embroidered by the guild members and the quilt given to Jacque as a thank you for her time given to guild projects.

 "Folk Art" by Patience Dixon.

"Civil War Presidents" by Louise Ford.

I'll have more pics of this show in the next few days, as well as some pics of my 'acquisitions'!  :o)
