More quilt show pics.....and a new top!

Here are more pics from the Chickadee Quilt Show from last weekend......but first!......

I just finished putting this little top together last night!  I love it so much!  My friend Pat had given me her bonus triangles from a project she had made, so the plaids were matched already with the shirting prints.  I sewed them up, and trimmed them down to 1 3/4" and then put 4 same plaids together in each block.  The red was a must.....hubby said so!  lol  I'll finish this off with some straight line quilting and red binding, and should have it on the wall within a week (I hope!).  Thanks Pat!  :o)

I've been saying that I wanted to make more wall hangings.....and get some patterns that I just love made up into minis, since I know my bed sized quilts are not terribly quick to get done.  So I'm really happy to get a move on that!  Minis......woohoo!  They work up so fast!  I love that!

Gorgeous!  And beautiful hand quilting, too!  Made by Sarah VanLeeuwen.  She writes that the alternate fabric was picked up by her husband years before on a mission trip to Nigeria.  She finally got to use it!  Nice!

 These were so beautiful......a really loved the technique.  Looked like a Monet painting!

 Made by Sue Drisko.  I love that she embellished the hexies with a million little french knots and embroidery. See the close ups!

Made by Suzanne Bruno.  I saw a similar quilt in a local shop, and immediately bought the Aussie prints to made a quilt like this for my hubby!  I just love it!

 These are the things I purchased at the show.  The books were at the 'yard sale' section of the show, and were picked up for a donation.  I've wanted the Quilter's Travel Companion book for a few years now.  I had one about 10 years ago, and it was so great!  Nice to have an updated one, at a really good price!

 These are the beautiful fabrics I bought at the Busy Thimble vendor booth.  Cyndi is so awesome, and so helpful, and always on the lookout for a print that we are trying to match or recreate a look.  And she has the best shop......filled to the brim with nothing but repros!  Love that!  Check out her blog!

Another item I picked up at Cyndi's booth was this wonderful stamp!  It's meant for signature blocks, and has that lovely look of a vintage scripted design.  I love it, and will use it on the labels of my repro quilts in the future!  The next day, I popped over to JoAnn's with my coupon and picked up an acid free stamp pad to go with it!  I'm ready now!  Yay!

Well......that's the end of the show!  Hope you enjoyed it!  I certainly did!

Our humidity has broken, finally, and I have had the best night's sleep for the past two nights!  I don't think I had slept for about 2 weeks before that!  Felt so good!  I hope you are having better weather where you are, too!

A local show!

This last weekend was the Chickadee Quilters Quilt Show.  They are a local chapter of the Maine State Guild, and they have their own show every year.  The state show will be at the end of this month.  I'm going with several friends, so I'll have pics of that then.

I thought the show program had all the info on each quilt, but it didn't.  So on some of the smaller quilts, I can't see the name of the maker on the signage.....sorry.  But I got most of the maker's names!  :o)

 First off......here are some of the antique quilts that were on display.

 Used as a table cover on the admission's desk!  Yikes!  Be careful with that hand stamp!

And here are the newly made quilts......

 Made by Beth Brown.  A really nice palette of black, red and white.

 Made by Chris Lowell.  The piecing was really nice......very precise.

 Made by Cindy Irving.  I love stripey quilts!  It's a phase I'm in right now!  lol

 Made by Dianne Barth.  I just loved all the 9-patches!  Pretty appliqued border, too.

 Made by Diana Haberle.  This was really good.....but you had to stand back 10 feet to REALLY get the right effect.  The whole quilt was only about 15x25 inches!

 Made by Dorothy Emanuoil.  This had a sweet story behind it.....the daughter kept sending her mom these hankies that she would find at garage sales or thrift shops.  They were pretty and she thought her mom would like them.  Then on a visit her mom surprised her with this quilt made from them!  Sweet!

 Made by Nina Behm.  This was really lovely.  And the hexies are only about 1/2" on the side!  Tiny!

Finished another Warm Hug!

Our little group's donation quilts are what we call "Warm Hugs"......as I think someone receiving one wouldn't like to think of it as a 'charity' quilt!  Last week, an elderly man in our town lost his wife to a heart attack, and I nearly had this quilt finished......so I got a move on it!  It's finished now, and in a few days, after the funeral, and after things settle for him a bit, I'll take it over to him.

I really need to find the setting on my camera that can take a good quilt pic!  Half of these homespuns are reading as solids, and those 4 dark squares are really not that dark in comparison to the rest of the fabrics.  There are some really dark blue and black plaids in there, but they are readying as lights!  Weird!

Here's the back, and again, it's really much darker in reality!

It's a good sized throw or for a single size bed.  And it works really well for a man.  I quilted an all-over big meandering stipple, so it's cozy and snuggley.  A warm hug for someone who might really need one right now.

And since I had the camera out......I got some flower pics from around the yard.  I nearly missed these again! Sheesh!  I need to get into the habit of using my camera every day.  I guess I'm still thinking back to the dark ages, when we only took 'important' pictures, because going to the Fotomat booth was so damned expensive for developing!  And we weren't much good at it, so a roll of 36 shots might only have 3 good pics on it!  Yep......I'm still thinking that way, even though I have a digital camera!  Just take one or two shots of something, and hope for the best!  Duh!  lol

Anyway......here are a few of the blooms before they are gone!

I don't know the names of any of the lilies anymore......that info in my brain is hiding in the corner with my math skills!

Too hot today to play golf (unless we take a cart......whimpy!), so I get to spend the day in the sewing room!  I've been organizing, and purging, and realizing I need to make some quilts, cuz I have about 8 inches of shelf space left.....and that's it!  And there are two local quilt shows coming up, and I might be bringing home some 'stuff'!  lol  You just never know.......so I better get busy!
