It's been so long......

....since I've had an empty design wall!  Yay!

Nearly 2 years ago, I started my Jubilee quilt, and the top was finished in just a few weeks.  Then I started working on the back, and I got STUCK!  My brain just wouldn't settle on an idea, and everything I drafted just looked weird.  I just couldn't figure it out.  So I let it sit for a while.....and that 'while' turned into nearly 1 1/2 years!  Cripes!  lol

Everything I've worked on in that time has been pinned over the pieces of that jubilee back.  And every time I took a picture of something on that wall......little bits of orange Jubilee would be peeking out!  lol

So a couple months ago, I decided I needed a deadline to get it done!  FORCE myself to figure it out!  So I decided to enter it into a show, and the deadline for the entry was TODAY!  I needed to have a picture of both the front and the back to enter it into the Vermont Quilt Festival, and I DID IT!!  Woohoo!

It's not complete......it's not even sandwiched yet.  But both the top and back are finished!  Woot!

 The Front.....

and the Back.....

I'm so happy with how the back turned out.  The orange section with the milk in it is 'made fabric' and was a total blast to put together.  And I'm loving the wavy line between the two sections.  My plan is to embroider the story of the quilt along the wavy line in the orange section with white floss (in tiny little letters!).  It will become the label for the quilt!

I need to organize my sewing room a bit.....and then I can start the machine quilting on it!  I can't wait!

Now, if you will all cross your fingers for me that my entry is in the first 180 they receive!  That's all they take for the show....so I could use all the good mojo I can get!  :o)

Happy Groundhog Day tomorrow!  And.....I think there's some sort of game on tomorrow, too!  lol  But I definitely know that Downton Abbey is on tomorrow!  That's all I really care about!  lol

  1. I have loved the orange jubilee quilt from the beginning--so striking. And I love orange anyway. But that back--Regan, that is too good! So unique and fresh. And what a plan for labeling. This better get in the show (so wish I was going to be in Vermont to see it there!), and they'd better hang it so the back is visible!!!

  3. I've wondered at times what had happened to your jubilee quilt. Both sides are so wonderful, I just love all that orange! Finishing it in time for a show is great incentive to get it quilted. I love Downton Abbey too.

  9. What a wonderful backing for a vibrant jubilee quilt. Does all that orange predict a Bronco win today rather than 6 more weeks of winter?

  10. Yay! I love fun backings. Good luck with the Vermont show. I didn't know that was how they did it. I think the idea of embroidering the label along the wave is fabulous. Can't wait to see this finished. Do you know how you are going to quilt it - what pattern?

  13. Holy Cow!! I love the back. The front, although I've seen it before, is absolutely dynamite, too! You need to enter it in a big show, like a Mancuso show as well. I'm crossing my fingers that it gets into your show. It deserves to been seen!!

  14. They will have to hang that quilt somewhere that showcases the front and back. I love, Love, LOVE it!

You do beautiful work. I have been visiting your blog off and on for a couple years. I get excited when I see you have a new post because i know it will be great.

Downton Abbey is a must see in our house.Be sure to get your hands on the British version. It has been unedited to fit the PBS time frame so there's little extra bits to see. Season 4 was great, I think I have watched the finale 4 times already!!!

  19. Oh goodness girl, you hit a home run. No wait, that should be a 100 yard run back for a touchdown! It is so fabulous. It makes me smile to think that our Jubilee quilts are about as far apart on the spectrum as any two quilts (at least your back). I love it. How did you do the back? Maybe you could do a tutorial. Good luck with the quilting - I know this will be a winner :).

  22. Hi Regan, It seems so long since I visited-must be because I am packing. I would have loved to start my Alaska quilt but need to get our house packed before April and in time to help my oldest daughter pack her house. They are moving close to where we will be-2.5 miles away-yippee(though right now they are only 15 minutes from us-so I can't complain). I am in the midst of packing up my sewing room-so much stuff and junk. Hope you have a great day and such fun quilting! Love your quilt, back and front-reminds me of an orange creamsicle.
    Hugs,
    Noreen
